[JapanUrbanLegend] Teketeke
Teketeke is a Japanese ghost that takes the form of a girl or adult woman without a lower body. This ghost is said to move at an incredible speed using its hands, reaching speeds of 100 to 150 km/h. It is named after the sound "teketeke" that occurs during its movement.
Teketeke is very aggressive and has legends of attacking people's lower bodies to devour them or using a sickle in its hands to cut off the victim's legs. A common trait of this ghost is that it always targets the lower body of its victims.
There are various theories about the origin of Teketeke, with the most famous story being about a woman named Kashima Reiko in Hokkaido who was hit by a train, resulting in her upper and lower body being severed. After suffering in a state of shock for several minutes due to the cold weather, she died. It is said that her grudge turned her into a ghost that torments people.
Additionally, it is said that anyone who hears the story of Teketeke will have the ghost of the lower-body-less Reiko appear within three days to take their lower body. If they cannot recite the incantation to ward it off, they are said to die with their lower body severed. This legend has been covered in various media, particularly in school ghost stories.
Such content is a popular theme in Japanese urban legends and ghost stories, with Teketeke being a representative example.
