Mel Waters claimed that this hole had been used as a landfill by local natives for generations, yet it showed no signs of filling up. He also mentioned another hole he discovered in Nevada, claiming that sometimes black beams shoot up into the sky from the hole. He asserted that when dead animals were thrown in, they would come back to life and that bringing a radio near the hole would result in the old broadcasts playing. He also raised questions about why wildlife avoided the area.

In a particularly striking interview in the early 2000s, he claimed to be pursued and threatened by intelligence agencies, stating that he was arrested by police in Tacoma and later dumped in San Francisco. Subsequently, he claimed he had to move to Australia due to the threats, alleging that the government had destroyed all records related to his hole. Mel stated that when he threw a sheep into the hole he found in Nevada, an alien organism was implanted in the sheep, which warned humanity about the risk of nuclear war. He mentioned that an investigation was ongoing at a nearby university regarding this, but Mel Waters has since disappeared from public view.

Meanwhile, Gerald Osborn, who calls himself the Red Elk, believes that Mel's hole exists in light of the hollow Earth theory and claims to have visited it several times. He stated that he lowered an 80,000-foot (24.384 km) fishing line into the hole but could not confirm if it reached the additional 1 pound (453 g) of earth at the bottom. He also claimed that a secret alien technology research facility operated by the government exists there.
