[WorldUrbanLegend] The Vatican Monastery's conspiracy to develop a time machine

time machine

In the 1950s, Pope Pius XII of the Vatican summoned the world’s most brilliant scientists to the Vatican monastery. Their mission was simple: to develop a time machine. However, the scientists soon concluded that the commonly imagined 'time machine' that allowed for physical travel through time was impossible. Some members of the team, including Pellegrino Ernetti, a priest and quantum physicist, proposed a different approach: rather than traveling through time, they would create a machine that allowed them to observe the past.

Ernetti believed that physical waves, such as light and sound, did not simply disappear over time but instead left traces somewhere in another dimension. By capturing these traces as electromagnetic waves, it should be possible to visually and audibly reconstruct past events. After much trial and error, the team succeeded in creating a machine in 1958 called the "Chronovisor," which allowed them to observe the past. With this device, they allegedly witnessed Napoleon’s speeches, Benito Mussolini’s leadership moments, and even the appearance of Jesus Christ.

However, shortly after the Chronovisor’s completion, the Vatican abruptly ordered the project to be shut down and the device dismantled. The reason was clear: if the machine were to be misused, it could cause worldwide chaos. The ability to witness historical events firsthand could shake people’s trust in history and lead to global panic.

Despite the initial claims of Ernetti and his colleagues, the evidence they provided began to unravel. The photos of Jesus Christ that Ernetti claimed to have taken with the Chronovisor were found to be fakes created by an Italian newspaper. Furthermore, the ancient Greek play attributed to Quintus Ennius, which Ernetti supposedly transcribed, was proven to be a fabricated piece of writing.

Ernetti, once a respected priest and scholar, was soon branded as a liar. He denied having ever publicly released any photographs or texts, claiming the images circulating in the media were fabricated by the press. He also insisted that the plans for the Chronovisor had only been shown in rough form, not in any completed state.

Years later, in 2002, a book titled The Chronovisor: Vatican's Mystery was published by François Bron, a priest from the Vatican’s Biblical Institute. Bron suggested that Ernetti had been forced into silence due to pressure from the Vatican, and he defended Ernetti’s character, claiming that he had no motive to lie. He pointed out that the Vatican's canon law contained a clause stating that anyone who used a time-travel device would be excommunicated, which he interpreted as further evidence of the Chronovisor’s existence.

Some conspiracy theorists have speculated that the U.S. Department of Defense secretly participated in the development of the Chronovisor, and that renowned scientists like Enrico Fermi and Wernher von Braun were involved but worked from the U.S. instead of the Vatican.

In the end, the Chronovisor remains an enduring mystery. Whether the device truly existed or was merely a figment of imagination, the questions it raises about time, history, and human understanding remain unanswered. The truth about Ernetti and the Chronovisor is still buried in the depths of history.
